STOP PRESS - YANKS HOLD HILL 30!
Despite repeated assaults by the Germans on the north and western flanks the remnants managed to hold on....for now. Due to the heavy boccage much of the fighting was at very short range with several bloody close assaults contributing to heavy casualties on both sides.
It was a case of "bend don't break" though, as the Germans struggled to make any serious progress up the slope of the hill, for the most part they never penetrated beyond the second field so were never able to bring fire to bear on the "summit" itself.
In vein they pushed for an opening, all the while hoping for the sound of tracked vehicles as just that extra bit of fire power at a key point could have made all the difference.
If they have time though, maybe just one more push....?
With their losses the Americans are stretched pretty thinly....just when will relief arrive....?
