GYFTOOMF: The Aphids

Originally posted 18th April 2010

I've added the photographs of the Aphids: frog-like aliens largely from Zombiesmith. Unfortunately I'm having a bit of a mare with my photos at the moment: I had the camera perfectly set up to take pictures using normal light bulbs, but now we've switched to energy efficient ones  I can't get the colour balance right! So apologies, and I will replace them all in due course.

GYFTOOMF: Protolene Khanate

I've added details for Critical Mass Games' Marrok Walkers: medium walkers to support the Protolene Khanate infantry.

The image below doesn't really do justice to the size of this thing, but a 15mm infantryman comes in at under the walker's knee height!

If there is such a thing as trends in wargaming, then 15mm science-fiction is currently it. The last year or so has seen an explosion in the range and variety of figures available: the mainly human ranges already existent have been joined by Aphids, Quar, Spugs, Garn, Karkarines, Felids, Dracon, Blarad and Greys to name but a few.

In the TooFatLardies 2009 Xmas Special, I wrote a sci-fi adaptation of IABSM so that I could play with all my new sci-fi toys. Although you'll need the 2009 Xmas Special article to play the game, here is the start of a host of useful support material, along with the usual Army Gallery and AAR sections.

A few more Italians added: Motociclisti and the first of the Fucilieri. Have now got a bit distracted painting Felids: 15mm sci-fi figures from Khurasan.

Heads up for my next scenario book: Operation Compass. Should be available within the next couple of weeks. Twenty-three early war scenarios for the Western Desert: time to get those Italians onto the table!

Okay, so I haven't got round to doing the rest of the Vietnam range: been too busy painting Italians for the Western Desert for my forthcoming Operation Compass scenario pack. Here are some of the Italians I've finished so far...and the Operation Compass scenario pack will be available in the early new year.

TFL Christmas Special 2009

Whether you're into things Lardy or not, I recommend you buy the TFL Xmas Special 2009: packed full of wargaming information and scenarios, and incredibly good value as well: 123 pages for a mere £5.

I have three pieces in the special:

Get Your Frickin' Tentacle Out Of My Face is a sci-fi variant for I Ain't Been Shot, Mum! that allows you to use all those weird and wonderful alien figures you have hidden at the back of the cupboard for some super sci-fi gaming.

The Defence Of Crap Island  is an early war Pacific theatre scenario featuring US Marines defending an atoll against Japanese invasion. Rumours that it was written purely to make Terry shut up are exaggerated!

Tottensontag is a 1942 Western Desert scenario featuring the Afrika Korps in action against the South Africans.

This brings the number of AARs on the site up to fifty: crackingly good reads with lots of inspiring photographs!
